Transforming

Chronic Pain

An immersive group container to
alchemise & befriend your pain and discomfort

How it works

Every Tuesday for 4 weeks, a small group of like- minded people will come together at
7:30pm AEST for 60 minutes via Zoom.
Each session is facilitated by Laura Johnson, offering prompts to deepen your
understanding of pain and learning ways to change your experience with it.

The process

+ We start with a brief 5 minute grounding practice, then a group check in. The first prompt will be offered, then all participants have a chance to share.
+ The conversation will be directed towards one individual if something arises This is an opportunity for everyone else to stay present.
+ This will be the flow of the session, allowing space for things to emerge and for each of us to learn from the other's experience.
+ We wrap each session with a short check- out, sharing how we are feeling, reflecting on the session.
+ An exercise for the week will be offered, and brought into the following session.

The nitty gritty

+ The sessions are 60 minutes, held over zoom, with a camera- on requirement.
+ Group session times can be adjusted if the new preferred time suits everyone.
+ Each container will consist of maximum 5 participants and have access to a Whatsapp group that is open for sharing, questions and reflections. Questions raised throughout the week will be addressed in the following session.
+ Each group has 4- week minimum commitment, with the option to continue each month as an ongoing subscription.

The difference

+ Learn new concepts and tools to actually help you transform your relationship to pain, paired with some theoretical research to better understand different perspectives of pain.
+ Understand the interrelatedness of pain and stress and work to unwind learnt behaviours and reactions that drive each response.
+ If theory sounds like a snooze, rest- assured you will get what you need from prompted deep enquiry, the power of sharing, and the wisdom that comes through compassionate listening during sessions.

The most beautiful thing about pain and discomfort is realising it’s a shared experience, and that connection alone can have a profound impact on your wellbeing.

Profound things happen when we vulnerably engage in community…

  • Learn new approaches to cope with and ultimately transform chronic pain by bridging the psychological, emotional and neurological components to the felt experience of pain. Allow processes and insights to emerge through conversation, prompted by somatic awareness, lived experience and research. Learn through shared experience in a space that fosters deep connection no matter what arises and practice sitting with discomfort.

  • Connection & support engage with like- minded people that help you to feel less alone and more committed to your experience. Access more affordable therapy in a private & confidential space to limit the added stress that 1:1 therapy can often bring to the on- going psychotherapeutic process.

  • The Butterfly effect by simply hearing yourself expose your often hidden inner world out aloud makes it more accessible to change. Witnessing others’ transformation can spark shifts in your own body and mind. This resonance or ‘morphic field’ amplifies the personal and collective growth process, enabling your ability to trust your own unfolding.

  • Mirrors in real - time it is courageous to show up and bare yourself in therapy. We can learn ‘how to be’ in theory, but to really gage how we
show up is revealed in how we relate to others.
In- group triggers, backgrounds, beliefs and identities will show us the parts of ourselves we’re challenged by. Our job is to remain open and curious, even in the presence of reflections we don’t want to see or tend to avoid.

Who is this for?

    • You would rather be validated for how you see yourself rather than who you truly are or want to be.

    • You are seeking trending ‘hacks’ or ‘quick fixes’ instead of committing to the slow, consistent and often uncomfortable process of meeting all the parts of yourself, even the parts you dislike or don't yet know.

    • You are not open or flexible to new perspectives on generating harmony within yourself.

    • You are in the early phases of trauma recovery and already receiving psychiatric support that might interfere, or overwhelm your body.

    • You have not sought psychiatric support for existing self- harming behaviours such as abusive relationships, eating disorders, substance abuse or addiction, inconsistent use of medications, suicidality or anything else that is putting yourself and others at risk.

    • You have struggled with physical, mental or emotional pain for some time, having tried lots of different approaches yet still not feeling resolved or any improvement

    • You have recurring mystery pain or injuries despite adhering to rehab protocols, supplement prescription, diets, etc.

    • You are seeking a more holistic approach to traditional talk therapy

    • You would benefit from more affordable access to therapy

    • You are passionate, committed and curious about the self, health and wellbeing.

    • You are willing to meet yourself where you are and let go of the expectations you have formed for yourself.

    • You are willing to grow in a group of other like- minded people and to compassionately witness and be witnessed in your raw humanity.
